Shadow Gods

Everything is starting to go to hell around here. The only news I found elsewhere was this little bit in an international newspaper: http://www.indiadaily.com/breaking_news/68355.asp The local newspapers are loaded with information and apocalyptic scenarios. Really interesting reads, but in Spanish:
http://www.endi.com/
http://www.primerahora.com/
http://www.vocero.com/ <--- What a shitty newspaper! Erm, sorry L!

The main focus has been on the closing of the Education Department, which affects 75,000 employees and half million students. What worries me more is the fact that the police force, the prison custody workers and the courts are also closing down if they don't get paid. Some say it could be the governor crying wolf as he always does. But then, many different people in the know have said that the crisis is real. The clincher is Rossellini, airing a TV message laying the blame elsewhere but not admitting his huge share of it, plus, packing his bags and leaving for Washington to steal the spotlight from Fortuño. Yes, Fortuño and Rossellini are up there drinking cocktails with Congress and dealing with the statehood issue, when people here are on the border of mass hysteria.

The solution: a direct intervention by the United States, just like Washington DC in 1995. The problem is: we are not THAT important in the whole scheme of things.

What a bunch of pussies.

  • Do not apologize, the Vocero is a shitty paper, blowing things out of proportion is their daily bread. What is really fucked up is that whenever I wanted to read the real news I'll get El Dia and somehow it seems they are on the same page. That's beyond shitty, that is scaring the crap out of a body.

As far as I know the thing about suspending the Police force is 100% bullshit. There is a provision in the Constitution that prevents the Police from going on strike, because of their oath to serve and protect the interest of the goverment. Same tthing applies to the force being dismantled or suspended, under any circumstance. What they could do in the worst scenario would be to make the Police work unpaid for a certain period of time, the goverment has the right to do that, once again, enforcing the Constitution. Now, since the days of vocation are far gone (my dad was among the last boy scouts) Un guardia mal pagao' might not do the job as you might want him to.

The fire department can be put on hold completely and that is a little scary...what really messed up my mind is the whole thing with the schools. I don't think is right to compromise the education of a country because they need to patch up some deficit. The situation with education is what is ringing the bells over here. They say that if they go ahead and finish the semesters earlier than schedule and close down the "Comedores" the Federal Goverment will cut even more funds.
All politics aside, I just hope this is not a case of the remedy being worse than the illness...

The crappy partisan mentality in the Island is sinking the ship slowly, it is a shame that Funky Joe and Ganster are actually leading the people's revolution while politicians are still worried about mixing their precious colors.

Too much of a rant, very little substance, so bye
