Shadow Gods

Yeah, I am alive, technically. I have not ceased to exist. In fact, several interesting and tragically comic things have happened lately, but I have been buried in self doubt and work to take the time and even talk to my closest friends.

I have been informed that I will not have either a Christmas vacation or a Christmas Bonus check. I need to graduate in May and get the fuck out of that underpaying gig.

The only class I got left is my undergraduate seminar. I dropped out last semester from the class because my former counselor was of no help at all. She wanted me to make an application that would run in BSD, Linux and Windows. That was all she said. I decided not to be a smart ass and do a Hello World application, but when I pitched my idea of a medical database that would diagnose illnesses based on symptoms, she scoffed at the idea. Then she was never available. Or wondered out loud in front of my peers if she had heard right when I mentioned that I was planning to graduate on May 2007. I know these are supposed to be bullying tactics enjoyed by professors, but I am not in some kind of cliched university drama and I am too old for that shit. So I enrolled again this semester. I was afraid I would have to choose the same professor again but a wildcard appeared in the registration process: my favorite professor in the whole department. Maybe I flunk the class (I doubt it) but I will laugh all the way to an F.

He already assigned me a project, designing an introductory programming concepts course that doesn't rely on a particular language grammar. It uses Alice 2.0, so instead of learning grammar plus understanding concepts, the student learns programming by using 3-d and animations similar to the Sims. In fact, Alice 3.0 will be based on the same character models as SIMS 2. The best thing is this is not a project that will die as soon as I turn it in. It will become a real course at the university and they are planning on starting it next year. w00t!

Went to see the Axl Rose GNR cover band, erm, Guns N' Roses for my birthday. Awesome concert, and Sebastian Bach was also there covering Skid Row songs, plus Papa Roach. Sad because I had to leave early due to a test, but it was money well spent.

Merry Christmas to all, if I don't update this again in 2006. Who, me?
