Che Guevara Movie

Gael García Bernal as a young Che Guevara... *drool*

The disappointing thing is this movie will only open in the US.

Need to write an article about the modern history of Mayagüez, my birthplace. Of course, when you have lived 32 years in the same place, you do not pay any attention to its history, it is always the same boring crap.

So, I am trying to do my homework and stumbled upon this page. Whoa, I mean, this is supposed to be an article to MAKE people come here. I doubt it with tidbits like:

"Today the town is noted more for its industry than its aesthetic appeal."

"Today this waterway is notorious for the destructiveness of its currents, the ferocity of its sharks, and the thousands of boat people who arrive illegally from either Haiti or the Dominican Republic."

"Today the town's major industry is tuna packing." (Not true, the tuna all packed up and left)

"There was a scarcity of eligible bachelors in Mayagüez, and the farmers kidnapped the young sailors in hopes of providing their daughters with husbands ..." (Things haven't changed much, they should have stuck another today at the beginning of this sentence)

Adding insult to injury, L's decidedly smaller hometown gets this ravishing review. Heh.

Greetings, it's me, an outlaw

Just to say that I am being eaten alive by the song "Dragostea din tei" as sung by Haiducii or O-Zone (I really don't know what they are singing, much less know which particular version I am listening to). It is a pop song, pop as in bubble dance music (think Erasure), not for the strong. After finding the translated lyrics, I like it even more.
Lyrics to 'Dragostea din tei' in English and Romanian

For those who wish they could know what the hell I am talking about:
Audio for the song
Sorry to inflict this on you, but if I have had to listen to this song in my brain for the past three days, you must too.

Warning to all my continental US friends: You will most probably spend this Christmas trying to avoid this song. It has been a #1 dance hit in Europe and here in Puerto Rico. You are next.

Another one bites the dust...

This has been one of those days I shouldn't have bothered waking up for.

My good boss got mad at me for using part of the day to take some pictures around town. I honestly thought we would need them for the next edition. She disagreed, she's the boss, I have to yield. Bah.

Took more pictures on my own free time and saw an ex-almost-boyfriend. Shit. He is thinner and more pathetic than I remember him. Begged for my number in order to ask me out eventually. If he ever follows up on that promise, he will learn by heart the definition of retribution. Sucker.

Seems to me the young glitch on the Matrix has been offended by something. Can't know for sure unless I totally blow my cool and right down whimper-ask about it. Fuck it.

Just for the record: Yahoo Messenger is a tool of the devil. That's all.

En garde!

Jeanne came and went. She sounded and felt like a hurricane but they say it was just a tropical storm. Our street flooded (part of the sidewalk came up and the cement tiles floated away) but nothing serious happened. At least not like the lady whose roof was torn off, was propelled from her hammock and got killed when she hit her neighbor's house.

I am watching a group of clouds forming to our right in the NOAA map. Africa seems a churning cyclone machine.

Haven't gone to school or work in three days. This worries me (the work) since I need a cover news story for next Monday. Obviously it should be Jeanne related but with a new viewpoint, which means I will have to interview civil defense officials. I hate interviewing people. I don't look forward to social contact with strangers. Also need to take catastrophic pictures that look good on paper.

Have been invited by Rue Morn to go with him to the beach. Or did I invite myself? I don't know. He said he needed somebody to take him to a beach party next Thursday and I offered him a ride. Heh. Let's see how similar that will be to babysitting. Not talking about Rue Morn, just his friends. After all, the name of the place is Dirty Beach...

Cradle will Rock

Day before yesterday was the Van Halen concert. I worked until 6:30 p.m. and at that hour had to go home, slap together two slices of bread, one slice of cheese and one of ham, get in the car with a bottle of Sprite and put the pedal to the metal. Got to the "Choliseo" at 8:55. The first chord strains of "Jump" started at 9:00 p.m. Perfect timing!

My review: The new Coliseo (or Choliseo since it is named after the greatest Puertorican comedic character Don Cholito) is absolutely awesome. 18,000 seater, five stories, it is the first born son (as opposed to bastard, since it is a high bred building) of the Roberto Clemente and Bellas Artes. The only glitch and a major one: it only has a hundred parking spots. What the fuck?! I had to leave my car a mile away in a shady neighborhood and pray that when I got back it would still have a battery and intact windows. Worse yet, that my car would still be there when I got back.

The concert was magical. I want to bear Eddie Van Halen's bastard children...

Today I get to stay home, no class, no work just ticking away time until tropical storm Jeanne arrives. Some forecasts say it will become a hurricane while hovering over the island. Shit! We seldom get this kind of crap considering our location, and after Georges I don't find fun in anything more than 1 or 2 inches of torrential but vertical rain. Shit, again!

Well, I am off to secure the dogs. Whenever rain and thunder breaks, my otherwise intelligent dog Monty avoids the safety of the house, goes up on the roof and starts barking, yelping and howling at the heavens...

Today I was hit by a baby condor. Have I told you how much I love my job?

News & World Report

I have been lucky since yesterday. The study situation worked out nicely. The professor gave me a third chance to turn in the project. Whoo-hoo!

Ivan looks as ugly as Georges. We are expecting him to visit us next week. That does not look good. Hoping that L is riding out Frances.

The Russian school massacre has saddened me terribly. Just like 9/11 and 3/11. I feel helpless and angry at what happened.

Cancelled

Several things have gone wrong in my life at the same time. Sadly, I had to cancel my trip to Tampa. So the average cost of ease of mind and responsibility is currently $700.

Will spend the day tomorrow fixing clusterfucks 2 (work) and 3 (study). Definitely going out tomorrow night, go to a little concert here. I will stop brooding right now.
